[bedding plant]

Clematis
Foliage deciduous with dark green leaves. Climbing vine needs support. Plant in full sun to part shade: protect roots from hot sun! Plant a short ground cover at base. Prefers rich, loose, well-drained soil, but very adaptable. Add lime at planting and then repeat once a year in spring. Keep soil cool and moist. Large flowewed hybrids do not require any special pruning - just allow to grow. If it becomes too large for area, prune growth to within 2 feet of basal growth before new growth begins in spring. Jackmani, and Niobe should be pruned yearly within 2 feet of ground level in February/March.
